People have birthdays!! And they think about them differently...

Sometimes people feel there's a great significance to having them. Which, of course!! It's the day they were born! A mini holiday dedicated to a person, and you can spend that time with friends and family, or spend the day however you'd like!

I often think about what to do for my birthday every year. There were times when I'd hope that someone would throw me a great big surprise with all of my friends. Sometimes I wouldn't want to think about it at all, however when the day comes and nothing happens... I feel a little sad, naturally.

I have friends that don't show the significance of their birthdays. Sometimes they'd silently hope people would remember, or they sit idle and not plan for their birthday, then later they would get sad that no one is around for their birthday.

I don't take it too personally when people don't really remember my birthday, even if I told them. Some people do remember, and that's nice to know at least. I also have friends that are nerodivergent, and often forget things. Which I understand completely, as am I.

I try to not have silent expectations for my birthday anymore, really. I can tell people what I want, or how I'd like my birthday to happen. Sometimes I still secretly hope for a big surprise that gets organized by a bunch of my friends. However I've grown to not be disapointed when that happens, because all that really matters to me is the company I recieve from them!!

I'm not going to knock people for feeling hurt about people not remembering their birthday, or feeling sad when nothing happens for their special day. It's okay to feel personal about the day that's dedicated to you. However, I think it's important, and also sort of a form of self-care, to set up something for your birthday with your friends. Or getting them to at least remember the date? Maybe? It's up to the person ofc.

My birthday is on Monday, the 26th on memorial day. Most people plan things on that day, so I always have to set up a celebration days after my actual bday. Which I dont really mind! As long as I have people's company in some capacity! It's all I really care for at the end of the day.

I try to get an idea in people's heads about my birthday, and ask what day works best for them to have my party or celebration of some sort! This year I asked a pinch of irl friends if the 31st of this month (a saturday) works for them. I have it set up, of some sort... which is nice! I even asked my mom if I could have the house to myself on that day, and she was okay with that!

I feel slightly nostolgic right now, so I want to share a little story:

I don't remember what exact year it was, but it was around 2010-2012 for sure. There was a website called iScribble.net, which was a browser-based drawing program that you could draw alongside other users on the same boards! Similar to drawpile, if youre familiar with that!

One day my friends set up a surprise for me. A friend messaged me to go on iscribble one day, and the board name had my name in it of some sort. I think some of my friends were sitting there and waiting. When I entered the chat room/board, they counted down then erased the top layer which was originally a black square. Then it revealed this card underneath that they all signed for me!! It was so so sweet. I cried, honestly. It's a fond memory I still hold dear.

This is the image: That was so long ago lol. I dont want to count how many years ago this was LMFAO
